Progressive Politicians - an Ideology That Spans Both Democrats and Republicans
59
Progressive politicians in the United States believe in evolution versus revolution. Karl Marxs believed a revolt against capitalism would happen no matter who is involved. Progressives believe individuals play a role in making it happen. Progressivism is often viewed in opposition to conservatives. Progressive politicians do not believe in the individual rights the constitution was designed to uphold, and therefore cannot co-exist with the original intent of the constitution. Progressivism is to move beyond the constitution, to create a living constitution. There are approximately eighty members of the progressive caucus and they chair eleven of the twenty standing committees in the house.

Men are Perfectible
The concept of progressive politicians is that men is perfectible.Progressive politicians believe they can make men and the world perfect through policies. These policies includes going to war in other countries to spread democracy. The founders believed that men are flawed and to protect the people they put in institutional safeguards. They also believed we should not go to war or meddle in the affairs of other countries unless there is a threat to the US.
Constitutional Differences
Our founders believed that power corrupts and created a separation of power. Progressive politicians want a centralize government in order to accomplish government programs, that will redistribute wealth and improve society.
The founders believed that when we are ruled by men and not by laws there is no rhyme or reason why things happen. What a men gives, is what a men can take away.
Jefferson believed that the two enemies of the people are criminals and government, and worked to tie the government down with the chains of the constitution so they would not become the legalized version of the first.
Both Parties
Progressives politicians are in both parties, it is about the Democrats and the Republicans.
Teddy Roosevelt was a progressive and Woodrow Wilson was also a progressive. They all believe in the ideal that we can solve problems with government solutions, which means we have to move beyond the constitution.
The foreign war difference between the two parties is one believes in an US leadership and the other believes in an UN leadership.
Nanny State
Progressive politicians created the first nanny state in order to improve society with the prohibition policy in 1919. Progressives also provide funding to organizations like Planned Parenthood. Planned Parenthood is considered a left wing organization but includes supports from both parties.
Planned Parenthood’s founder is progressive Margaret Sanger. Sanger believed she could make the world better through eugenics; she had an anti black background and gave at least one speech at a KKK rally. She wrote in her autobiography that she believed she had accomplished her goal since she received a dozen invitations to speak to other groups.

I would not be surprised at the numbers, just amazed. I am sure the numbers are significant, but not majority. Most people in this country are middle of the road in their politics. Unfortunately, the only ones we hear the loudest on T.V., and other media, are those that the media can sensationalize by their radicalism. When we hear these extreme views day in, and day out, we are led to believe that this is the majority of the american people, when in reality, the majority of the american people are quite disgusted with the extremes on both sides of the isle. If the media stopped trying to pit one side against the other and sensationalizing that fringe of fanatics, there might be a little more realism in the public's eyes - And a lot more interest in what is really going on.
Being an idealist, as you called me on my last hub, (no offense was taken, as i took it as complimentary) i believe that if there was actually a viable Centrist Party on the ticket, both of the current ones would be kicked off to the side like some old pile of junk that they are. I keep hoping that with each new generation, there will be some common sense imbedded into politics, religion, and the media, but they just seem to keep breeding those crazies that are taking over our government.
I may not approve of frivolous and unnecessary abortions, but i sure as hell will fight to defend a woman's rights of choice. If we allow those rights to be taken away by a few radical moralists, there will be no stopping them from returning us back to the dark ages when men ruled, women served, and religion dictated all aspects of one's public and private lives.

I found this article to be quite interesting to say the least. Certainly a different point of view from mine.
The word "Progressive" is certainly misused by many. This is a simple word with a deep meaning. It simply means moving forward. making use of, or interested in , new ideas, findings or opportunities. One believing in moderate political changes, especially social improvement by governmental action.
It is the opposite of conservative, which embraces and uses old, staid, and stagnant ideas, and cling to unfounded religious beliefs as a basis for running everyone elses' lives as their justification.
Your view of Jefferson, is a bit limited, and he obviously did not succeed in what you say he was all about, since criminals are definitely running our government today.
People make all kinds of negative connotations toward the organization of planned parenthood, but all for the wrong reasons. This organization has helped thousands of women through their pregnancies, by providing medical care, guidance, as well as emotional support.
Those who object to its existence are fundamentalist bigots who want only to control the lives of others, by preaching, and promoting their biased religious views.
The term 'nanny state' was a derogatory and demeaning term coined by those very conservatives who believe that corporate america should never have to contribute anything toward the betterment of mankind.
Your article is well written, but does not reflect the views of mainstream america.
